Saint Aldhelm was a teacher, evangelist and Abbot of Malmesbury, who was appointed the first Bishop of Sherborne in 705 AD. 2005 is therefore the 1300th anniversary of his consecration. To celebrate this important date, the Diocese has organised a series of special events, including a five-day pilgrimage which will culminate in an outdoor celebration on June 4th at St Aldhelms Head near Swanage in Dorset, with the Archbishop of Canterbury as guest preacher.
